Bobby Moynihan - Is Garfield (Save the Comics)

Here's one from the Seth Rogen episode last year:



NBC didn't post it, but we found it.

Not much of an impression from Bobby, but it's still funny.

Here's a description:

After the first ad break, the newspaper industry seems to have chosen 2009 as the year it completely fails, and what will this mean for the old-school funny pages? The comic strips have taken things in their own hands, with Dick Tracy (Sudeikis) leading a rally for "Save The Funnies." Everything about this echoes a sketch in January with Neil Patrick Harris helping to save Broadway, with most of the cast involved. This time, we're making fun of comic strip jokes. Which means trying to mine safe humor for broad TV humor. Will it work? Could it work? Hagar the Horrible (Rogen) and his wife, Helga (Casey Wilson). Archie (Hader) and Veronica (Elliott). Garfield (Moynihan) and Jon (Will Forte), although Dick Tracy confuses Garfield for Heathcliff. "Do all orange cats look alike?" Which then leads to confusion over Kenan Thompson's character. This happened in the Broadway sketch, and this time, Thompson is thought to be part of "The Boondocks" cast, when really, he writes the bridge column. Darrell Hammond makes his weekly rare appearance as the Jumbles guy. "Kucf you!" Cathy (Samberg) is the memorable one?! There's a Far Side reference. Stand-up Mike Drucker (who works behind the scenes) gets onscreen as "political cartoon" not being subtle as an AIG robber. Peppermint Patty (Wiig) and Marcie (Michaela Watkins) from Peanuts get caught making out. But hey, it's 2009! Armisen ends up finishing the sketch as the funniest thing in it, the Sudoku savior.

Yeah, this is what happens when you let Will Ferrell do whatever he wants. Still it's phenominal just to see all those stars up there with all the cast. Next time they should have TLI write the skit. That would probably involve more blood and bodies bursting. =^)

The Target lady has a friend.


I think Justin pretty much stole this skit from Kristen. Kristen's weird character was barely even noticable compared to Justin's weird character. It almost seems like Kristen's role might have been better suited for straight characters to play off of Justin Timberlake's weirdness.

This should be a repeat character for Justin. It's hilarious!


Bobby's doing some gardening. He starts at the beginning and leaves at about 4:38 left on the clock.

Bobby has some hilarious facial expressions here.


At about 3:02 left on the clock, Abby Elliot looks up to read the cue card and prepare for her next line. The actors try to do this more subtely when they are more experienced. No knock to Abby though. It's great to see SNL using her more.

Overall, Bobby was in a lot of SNL skits for this Justin Timberlake episode, but most of his roles were side characters. That's important to support the other characters though, and Bobby does it well. So well that his facial expressions as a trekie became the "character" in this skit.

Bobby plays one of Andy's coworkers here. Not a ton of Bobby, but they wrote this song with randomness in mind, not to make the best possible use of cast members.

This song is from Andy's The Lonely Island CD, Incredibad. Fans want Boombox next, but this one made sense because the voice features Andy Samberg. Looks like they remixed the intro voice to use Seth Rogen's voice. Jorma Taccone makes a guest appearance as the mail man, and Akiva makes a guest appearance as the man who sells Andy the gun (which is appropriate, as members of The Lonely Island). We also see Paula Pell (a writer) in one of her rare face appearances (usually she just lends her voice).

I've got to admit... Bobby didn't do anything super hilarious here with his Gonzo impression. Try again Bobby! We know you can come up with some funny Gonzo stuff!!!

Nice chicken.

Andy's third skit as the Swedish Chef. His first skit was the Swedish Chef ringtones in his first, 05-06 season. Second, he returned last season (07-08) with the Muppets band, where Maya Rudolph played the woman, Janice, Hader played Animal, and Seth Rogen (the host then too) played Rowlf. Now the Muppets return with even more characters including Beaker (Kristen is hard to recognize here), Kermit, Gonzo (yay Bobby!), and Fozzie the Bear.

I think the funniest new addition here was actually Jason Sudeikis as Fozzy. I liked that Bobby was holding a chicken. Andy got a good laugh when slapping Beaker and talking to him in um, smorgy borgy.

What, no Miss Piggy? I think Casey or Abby could do a good job with it.

I love it when they do these Q&A sessions for the monologues!

All are good gags here. Jason and Kristen make fun of Seth doing a mall cop movie (after Paul Blart Mall Cop was successful), Bill makes fun of Seth's weight loss (and weed habits), and Bobby and Abby have a hilarious bit about a guy who can't pretend to be Seth anymore. I think they ended with the funniest gag, but they were all pretty good!

I thought it was funny that Jason Sudeikis was wiping the water off his eyes after he was already impaled. I suppose it was best to do this skit last because it must have been more time consuming to dry off after this skit.
